Food Grade and GRAS Status for Cocoa Powder
All cocoa powder products supplied by Santa Barbara Chocolate are food grade and made in accordance with all FDA regulations. They are approved for food use and apply with all food safety standards set fourth under the Food Safety and Modernization Act. This includes being produced under the scope of a comprehensive Quality Assurance program that includes a HACCP, Food Quality Plan and GMPs programs.
In addition, cocoa powder is considered safe by the FDA according to existing data and has been granted GRAS status. Generally recognized as safe or GRAS is a FDA designation that a specific substance or ingredient is generally considered safe by experts, and so is exempted from the usual Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) food additive tolerance requirements.
