Ice cream is easy and fun to make. Following a simple recipe, you just need basic ingredients that you’ll tend to have around the house anyway: milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and of course, the chocolate. If you want some fresh strawberries in there for variety, who’s to say no? Some people think that you need an “ice cream machine” to make your own at home, but here is the real secret. Grab a small bowl, put it inside a large bowl, and pow! You just designed your own DIY ice cream machine. The trick to making it work is to always have a fair amount of salt and plenty of ice. A mini ice maker will fit anywhere you want it to go and saves a lot of time and effort when you need more ice than your tiny freezer trays will allow you. Fill the space between the large and small bowls with plenty of ice, sprinkle salt all around, avoiding the inner bowl and top off with water. The salt with the ice super-cools your liquid water to below freezing. As you whip up your ingredients, the chilled sides of the inner bowl (a thin, metal mixing bowl works best) will freeze the ice cream, and you get to decide how firm or soft you want it.
Perfect for summer parties, or for just treating yourself on a hot day, throwing together your own home-made chocolate ice cream means you never need to settle for someone else’s idea of deliciousness.
